Baud Builders, Inc. has been named a Regional Winner, Region 1 Northeast, for Residential Addition $100,000 to $250,000. NARI, The National Association of the Remodeling Industry sponsors the contest. To be considered for a CotY Award, a company must be a NARI member in good standing.
Contractors from seven regions around the country vie for CotY Awards each year in various categories including additions, kitchens, baths, entire home remodels, green recognition and historic renovation/restorations among others. Within each category there are various project price ranges. Regional CotY Winners will now advance as finalists to the national level.
Judging of the projects is by an impartial panel of industry experts and is based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, and the degree of difficulty of the project. Entries must include project photos and a written description of the project.
We entered a kitchen/dining area remodeling project we finished last spring. This project was driven by our homeowner’s desire for a large kitchen and separate dining room for entertaining their family and friends. The new kitchen needed to be more functional than the existing space which was a 9’ x 12’ room with an “L” shaped kitchen counter and small dining area. The few windows there were provided limited natural light and views of the water. They also wanted to keep an existing gazebo which was currently within the footprint of the new addition.
The addition is a 20’ x 20’ room with a vaulted ceiling allowing for a bank of windows high on the gable end, dormers with windows, a 4’x 8’ island with prep sink, a bay window seat at the small eating area, and two exterior doors leading to separate outdoor entertaining areas. The wall between the new addition and the existing home was opened up by two 4’ openings allowing circulating traffic between the kitchen and new dining room. The east, south and west exposure brought in plenty of natural light through the new windows.
The new deck connecting the home to the gazebo flows seamlessly and looks like it was placed naturally as one of our talented craftsmen scribed the deck to the uneven outline of the rocks anchoring the deck and gazebo.
All winners will be honored during the NARI Spring Business Meeting at the Evening of Excellence Reception on April 17, 2015 in Fort Lauderdale, FL where they will also announce the 2015 National CotY winners. David will be attending the Reception as he will be in the area for his Spring Builder 20 Craftsmen meeting.
