BAUD BUILDERS WINS
REMODELING AWARD
Narragansett, R.I. addition selected best project in Northeast region
WAKEFIELD, R.I.: Baud Builders, Inc., a custom, high-end residential home building company located in Wakefield, R.I., has earned a 2015 Northeast Region “Best Project” Chrysalis Award for Remodeling Excellence.
The winning project, selected from over 500 entries across the U.S., is for a whole house remodel under $250,000 completed for a homeowner in Narragansett, R.I. The project was judged by editors and writers of Better Homes & Gardens, Woman’s Day Home Remodeling & Makeovers, Southern Living and Sunset Magazine on overall design, creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure or integrated into the existing space.
Baud Builders competed in a field of over 500 entrants to win a coveted Chrysalis award, and is one of 92 of the nation’s top remodeling companies to have won based on the highest degree of professionalism and ability within their respective categories.
“This was the second time that Baud Builders has taken home honors in this highly competitive awards program, which demonstrates their ongoing commitment to professionalism and excellence,” states Ken Kanline, director of the Chrysalis Awards. “It is quite an achievement.”
Baud’s winning project for a home in Narragansett involved a 20’ x 20’ room addition to accommodate a large, functional kitchen and separate dining room for entertaining family and friends. An existing outdoor gazebo was located within the footprint of the new addition and needed to be repositioned. Baud Builders worked with the homeowner and landscape architect to best site the gazebo, locate the foundation piers and carefully move it by crane into place.
The new kitchen space features a vaulted bead board ceiling allowing for a dramatic bank of windows high on the gable end to allow for natural light and views of the water while cooking. Other elements include a 4’ x 8’ island with prep sink, Vermont soapstone countertops to compliment the white cabinets, radiant heating for white oak rift hardwood flooring, a bay window seat at a small breakfast nook, a dormer with windows, and two exterior doors leading to separate outdoor entertainment areas. Two 4’ openings in the wall between the new addition and existing home allow for optimal traffic circulation between the kitchen and new dining room.
A new deck connecting the home to the gazebo flows seamlessly and appears to be placed naturally. Baud Builder’s talented craftsmen scribed the edge to the uneven outline of large rocks that anchor both the deck and gazebo.
Throughout construction, Baud Builders set up a temporary kitchen in the homeowners’ garage so they could continue to cook and eat during the project.
