WAKEFIELD, R.I.: Baud Builders, Inc, a custom high-end residential home building company located in Wakefield, R.I., was named a 2015 National Contractor of the Year (CotY) winner by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) for a residential addition completed in Narragansett, R.I.
This is the first time that Baud Builders has received the prestigious CotY Award. The winning project is one of three from across the U.S. – and the only one in the Northern U.S. – to earn the award in the $100,000 to $250,000 “additions” category of the annual competition.
Each year, NARI presents CotY awards to members who have demonstrated outstanding work through their remodeling projects. Contractors from seven regions around the county vie for CotY awards in various categories including additions, kitchens, baths, whole home remodels, green, and historic renovation/restoration among others. Judging is based on problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation, and degree of difficulty by an impartial panel of industry experts. NARI named 160 regional winners in 2015 including Baud Builders who all advanced to finalists at the national level.
Baud Builders President David C. Baud, CGR, CBG, CGP accepted the award in April at NARI’s Evening of Excellence reception held at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty Six in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Baud’s winning project for a home in Narragansett involved a 20’ x 20’ room addition to accommodate a large, functional kitchen and separate dining room for entertaining family and friends. An existing outdoor gazebo was located within the footprint of the new addition and needed to be repositioned. Baud Builders worked with the homeowner and landscape architect to best site the gazebo, locate the foundation piers and carefully move it by crane into place.
The new kitchen space features a vaulted bead board ceiling allowing for a dramatic bank of windows high on the gable end to allow for natural light and views of the water while cooking. Other elements include a 4’ x 8’ island with prep sink, Vermont soapstone countertops to compliment the white cabinets, radiant heating for white oak rift hardwood flooring, a bay window seat at a small breakfast nook, a dormer with windows, and two exterior doors leading to separate outdoor entertainment areas. Two 4’ openings in the wall between the new addition and existing home allow for optimal traffic circulation between the kitchen and new dining room.
A new deck connecting the home to the gazebo flows seamlessly and appears to be placed naturally. Baud Builder’s talented craftsmen scribed the edge to the uneven outline of large rocks that anchor both the deck and gazebo.
Throughout construction, Baud Builders set up a temporary kitchen in the homeowners’ garage so they could continue to cook and eat during the project.
Baud Builders is a past recipient of a national Chrysalis Award for Remodeling Excellence in the Northeast Region from Qualified Remodeler, an “Innovation in Construction” award from Remodeling News magazine, and a Pacesetter Award in the “Production” category from the National Association of Home Builders’ Custom Home Builders Committee and Custom Home magazine, and was named a “Top 500 Remodeler” by Qualified Remodeler. The company continues to serve the custom building and remodeling needs of its valued past clients, and is proud to be working directly with new generations of homeowners throughout the South County area of Rhode Island and beyond.
